Collect moments before writing an opening
List experiences that changed how you understand dentistry, service, learning or responsibility. For each one, describe what happened, what you did and how your thinking changed.
Choose a thread you can support
Look for a connection between a few experiences. Explain your motivation through specific observations and actions. Avoid borrowing someone else’s story or implying a clinical role you did not have.
Draft first, then revise for the prompt
Write in your natural voice. Check the application service’s current prompt and character limit, then remove details that do not help the reader understand your motivation. School-specific responses should answer that school’s exact question.
Ask for focused feedback
Ask a trusted reader what they learned about you and where your meaning was unclear. Save a revision before making major changes. Read the final response aloud and verify what was pasted into the official application.
